Dragons are one of the rarest creatures on the earth. Though they look quite impressive with their fire breathing abilities and enormous size, they are only visible to people who believe in them. They have reptilian bodies and like the other reptiles on this planet, they start their life’s journey in an egg. Dragon lore tells us that these eggs are enormous in size and smooth and oval in structure. The color of the egg determines the color of the dragon. Dragon eggs are very hard to find, however if you do come across a dragon egg, it surely means that someone has slain the female dragon. Hence, it becomes your responsibility to ensure that these eggs hatch properly.
Before you actually proceed further, you need to make sure that there are no parents lurking around. Dragons are quite protective of their eggs and young ones. If you see even one of the parents around, don’t even think of going near the egg.
However, if you have ensured that there are no parents around, then you can check the egg. Eggs that are about to hatch typically have a chipped area or you will hear some distinctive tapping sounds. If you don’t see these signs, it simply means that there is still time.
Meanwhile, you can use this time to get some fresh meat, as the young dragons are generally ravenous when they emerge and need to be fed as soon as possible.
When you hear tapping noises, then its time for the egg to hatch. Dragons have a strong snout, which is used to break the shell of the egg. If you want to help in the process, simply tap gently on the shell.
Once the dragon emerges, you need to feed it with meat. This will not only satisfy its hunger but also help you to bond with it as dragons have a tendency to bond with the first hand that feeds it.
Though rearing a dragon is quite an educational experience, you need to make sure that you are up to the task. The baby dragon weighs about 80 pounds, is about 6 feet in height, and only keeps growing with time. Moreover, it is hardly able to protect itself in the first year since it needs time develop the hard scales. Hence, ensure that you have adequate resources before taking this important responsibility.
Okay … I’ll admit I just fabricated that story - I haven’t a clue how to hatch a dragon egg. :)
But … somebody does, ’cause here’s a real picture of a dragon hatching.
